used dryer sheets

anyone save used dryer sheets? I do!
to applique (I KNOW that dreaded A word)
especially if I have a funky shape like a heart

layer the shape right sides together with the dryer sheet
and sew all the way around
yep, ALL the way

like this.......

then gently lift the dryer sheet from the fabric and cut
a small slit for turning

turn it and press to make nice points and rounded edges
see? easy peasy and ready to applique
either by hand or machine

I don't mind hand stitching
and I found a secret to making it look fabulous
when you bring up the needle, bring it up
a little under the applique

not sure if you can see but my stitches come out almost
invisible
I use the edge where the front and back meet
and put my needle in and down underneath that
makes it look like the applique is floating

and round shapes are not an issue.........

neither are funky shapes like hearts

that is how I made all the teeny tiny shapes in my mother in laws
quilt
otherwise I would have jumped off a bridge
(well maybe not really but you get the idea)

makes life easier

you're welcome..........
