a little of this and that

I tried to play in the sewing room
I got just enough time to pick these 5 charms for
another zippy bag and cut them in half
now to find a color for the strip and strap
then sew them up
I have a purple loving niece who would like this one I think
***wink***

here is a green one I pulled together

and beige and black
love this combo too
I figure if I cut these out hopefully I can sew them
by the weekend.....at least get the strips sewn maybe
that is a start

meanwhile, back at the ranch, other projects are cropping up
remember the yard sale last year? well we are
having a party for residents this July
Summer Fling- with a beachy theme
soooooooooo  needed some beach pails and supplies
at the dollar store. these will be washed and
filled with "fish and chips" (one will have goldfish crackers
and the other some potato chips" using the shovels as scoops
cute huh?
there are other cute ideas like sanddollar cookies- just a
round sugar cookie with 5 almond slices to form the star
cute cute! I am looking forward to getting more
done for it.....Pinterest has such great ideas!

and some Christmas shopping got done. a deck of cards and
a plate done in photos for someone
they came out awesome! but not sure if they read my blog
so cant show right now

there are still pants to hem, and books to cull out of the quilt library.....
sigh............

and flowers to hot glue into my wishing well.
this will take time as each flower needs to be glued to the stem first
THEN I can arrange them in the well for outside.

never a dull moment around here........

some ideas

tea or coffee mug
for mug rugs  hmmmm   cute idea!

comic strip zippy bags........
another adorable idea

little bags with button trims.
I have plenty of buttons to use
and they have a little strap handle
so cute

I made one on a Friday night sewing with my friend
the hardest part was the gathering of the fabrics

but  it came out cute.
If I do some assembly line style then that would be a great
addition to the Christmas box.

deciding how to spend my time

I think I will cut and sew up a bunch of these
in all different colorways
then when I see cutesy things on sale
like polish etc I can get and fill them up
a little matching kleenex holder would be cute inside
and a keyring holder too

and I need to work on this guy and get it done
it is small enough to hand quilt at night
and shouldnt take more than a couple sittings
then one to bind in dark blue

My Christmas box is empty this year compared to last year
I need to get busy
been doing things around the garden and house
and need to get the sewing room running

on the immediate list:
1) zippy bags
2) table runners
3) fleece socks
these are always good for stocking stuffers or little gifties

Does anyone know where I can find a Daniel Boone type hat
that I can make? I am thinking that Landon would LOVE that
I have fake fur that I want to make into a bear pillow
and a matching hat would be cute!

what do i wanna do?

I am thinking I may want to swoon for Christmas
you know.......
I bought a ton of Christmas charm packs
from that Jenny girl

wouldnt that be beautiful?

or do I want to make a weave quilt
I have admired all of them that I saw on the internet
so got that pattern too.

or dresdan
hmmm..........
love me some dresdans
and this variation turned into a strip type quilt is cute too
like a sawtooth pattern

or play with these
I saw a quilt I loved called good Night Irene made with these
you alternate with an X block and it puts points
on the 4 sides
I love it! because my Mom's name is Irene too
how cool is that?
Maybe I could work on that...........

or finish a bag or two..............

or play with new stash............
I cant make up my mind!
grrrrrrrrr

more garden beauty

tomatoes are coming along
gotta keep the woodchucks away though

tower is filling in
love it

neighbors bushes are blooming

another lilly on the side of the house
I think this was the pretty pink one last year
Hi Mom! (her fav flower)

and the roses
this year they bloomed early
I think I may have pruned them at the wrong time
but they are still so pretty
next year I think I will prune them right down in the winter
I was afraid to but I think they need it to come up
strong and full
gotta go check out more patterns and see what I can sew

after the rain

these geraniums are such a pretty salmon color
I love them
and very prolific
they are small but lots of blooms

and Mr Bunny is happy with his flower garden
lillies are now in bloom in that area

the front under the tree with the nest is coming along too
those are iris that are past blooming
but the yellow in the background
is some type of grassy thing that has orangy blossoms
they are pretty too

and my yellow rose this year! WOW
last year I had ONE rose on it
this year it is loaded with flower buds
Yeah for coffee grounds

and the purple clematis is going nuts
hoping to see white flowers this Fall
we will see..........

looking around the garden I see that we survived those awful thunder storms.
We were in a tornado watch here for a bit and it was scary.
We normally don't get tornados
and I live in a MOBILE........
NOT a good combo for sure!  We are safe and sound and we survived.

one lovely blog award

I was given the one lovely blog award by Collette at what about Rheema. I was never one to do these blog awards as I don't have a huge following of readers and it doesn't seem fair as I think  the purpose  is to get more followers but here goes.

Here are 7 facts about me:

1) I live in a small town with my hubs and two cats. Dunkin and Phoebe. Both cats were rescues. One from the pound and one from a dumpster where someone left him and his siblings in a trash bag to die. Dunkin clawed his way out and cried and cried where we heard him and fed him. The rest as they say is history! we love our Dunkin and our Pheebes

2) I was brought up one of 5 children on a farm. Actually the term used here is we were "market gardeners". That meant we rented the land that we grew vegetables on and we trucked them in to the market to be sold. As a kid we all hated the work, especially in the summer when our friends were going on vacations. We were picking peppers or beans etc and not having fun. It taught us all the value of a hard days work and to appreciate little things. A short trip to get an ice cream cone to us was a fun treat.

3) My Mom taught me the love of sewing. She would sew everything from my school clothes to replacing the leather on a seat for my Dad. She used to swoon over my Aunts zigzagging machine. (her sister) and I used to think someday we too will have one. It never happened but that old Singer that we sewed on was a work horse. I wish I still had her. I sewed so much in 8th grade that I got a pass out of study hall (who can study there anyway?) and sewed that class until I had a quilt. Yep my FIRST quilt. it was made of all polyester squares (ew). I made it because in history we learned that girls by the time they were 13 were supposed to have started making quilts for their hopechest. well I guess I was one hopeful gal! I finished it, tying it with yarn (are you getting a visual here?) and it was used as the backdrop for our fashion show. I was awarded the HomeEc award that year. The FIRST one! (I guess that ugly quilt really fooled them, huh? LOL)

4) I work in a small office. Our company sells concrete but I also weigh trucks going out with sand and stone. I once weighed a cow for a farmer here. Hey, where else you gonna find a scale big enough? He weighed 1900 lbs and the owner was selling him by the pound. LOL  I also weighed an ambulance for the state. Those were in my first week of working there. You just never know in a small town do you? I also do Accounting. Who knew?

5) My Aunts on my Dad's side taught me the love of gardening. My Aunt Mary loved her clematis and wisteria. Her yard always looked so pretty with the purple flowers. My Aunt Jo also loved plants and flowers. Her gardens boasted of some lupines and other pretties. My Aunt Evelyn had a vegetable stand and their love of plants involved Christmas trees in the slow season. So farming is in my genes you can say. My Aunt Jo liked to try new things like I do. Dandelion jelly? check  garlic jelly? check

6) My Aunt Jo also loved to  paint. another passion of mine. (that's my problem I like to do TOO many things! ) She would watch Bill Alexander "fire in"  and later Bob Ross "happy little trees" and painted some gorgeous paintings with water and birch trees.

7) I also am a yarn freak too! yep, crochet and knit are both hobbies of mine too. My Aunt Jo before she passed away, handed down some gorgeous crocheted handkerchiefs that HER mom made (my grandmother who died before I was born)  they are special to me and I want to incorporate them into a quilt or some kind of keepsake with the history on there. I had no children of my own but I have two stepchildren and 7 grandchildren.

so there you have it. Everything you never wanted to know about me. (***wink***)
I am not tagging anyone else for the award but if you stumble here and want to play along, feel free to do so.

rainy sleepy days

these little guys love a rainy day
no chipmunks to look at
no hummers at the feeders
just a good day to hunker down and nap

but Mom gets restless
so I went out to see the world
hmmmm.........a bird nest but really low
I can almost touch it!

a closer look. are those little baby bird butts?
looks like they are hunkered down too
to ride out the rain
they are not even making the usual racket when I look at the nest
normally Mom is swooping down at me
but not today.
everyone is stopped and resting

so I went in and checked out this pattern.
I have loved seeing the swoons online
and FINALLY can start my own.........

don't ya just love rainy days?

Dunkin made a selfie

Dunkin made a selfie

yeah he is playing with the camera
you didnt think he was quite that much of a stinker did you?
yeah, he IS  LOL

but don't you just love technology?

yeah, SOMETIMES  I love how easy it is to go online
and buy quilting supplies.........

until I buy and buy and buy.............

and buy again. (thanks Missouri Star for making me POOR)
then I go on a "diet"
and that lasts about a day
or until the next big quilting deal comes up........

sigh............

so I bought a "low tech" game for me and hubs to play
just because.....ha ha
anyone else crazy like me????

how adorable is this guy

this is my great nephew
(I hate saying that I sound so OLD LOL)

but I LOVE LOVE LOVE this kid
he loves to hang out with Auntie
shooting at the turkeys with a homemade slingshot
(no turkeys were harmed)

he is too funny!

He is getting BIG so fast.
FOUR already going on 40

his Mom put a video on with him
trying to move hay bales for his Grampie
he had on a straw hat and was so funny

he kept telling his other Auntie to help him
she goes what do I look like?
he says "a man"
I thought I would pee my pants

as they say, out of the mouths of babes

LOVE this kid!
