starting on my orange slabbing

She must be colorblind!
heehee

in this HST container I have all sorts of sizes
of HST that were cutoffs from other projects

lookie what I found!  this is a yellow and red
combo that I am going to start with

and I sewed these little guys up for beginnings too
just for fun and to mix it up a bit
this is a FUN project so
lets get started!

I started with these and my orange scraps

and chain pieced some oranges to the sides
to make them bigger

and bigger

I will continue on until I see some pieces
I like the size of.

go on..........GET SLABBING!
you dont have to add the tiny pieces in
the beginning if you dont want to
it is YOUR project

remember these? and farmgirl Aug block

Do you remember all the oranges
that we are collecting

yeah here is a little tease

from Jacky

she started slabbing away
so that when it comes time
we can show  you how this will
work

In the meantime,
keep collecting those oranges
and slab a little if you want a head start

For THIS slab get together
we will be doing this:

1) collecting and slabbing with oranges
2) trading pumpkin recipes
3) getting directions on what to do
with your slabs
along with some pics for ideas

This slabathon you will KEEP your slabs

SO............
THAT MEANS............

IF YOUR ORANGE STASH IS NOT UP TO PAR

SEND A CALL OUT TO YOUR FRIENDS
TO HELP YOU GET MORE SCRAPS TO PLAY
WITH

you have AUG and SEPT to make your
orange slab project

dont worry
we will hold your hand the whole way
I promise

will you join us for some Fall slabbing fun?

email me your recipes so I know you are playing along
just one pumpkin recipe from you that I
will share on the blog
yep Aug and Sept are pumpkin month around here

you in????

good

 for this week.....
gather your oranges and beg borrow or steal them
from quilty friends

and
email me  your pumpkin recipe with your name and
your blog name so I can give you credit

and if you are farmgirling with us
Aug will be a
"pick a block to do" month
I have to go back and see what we have done
and where we are at so that
will give me time to catch up too

oh and last but not least
remember these?
uglies?

yeah picture me with the white flour in the face
(white thread all over me)
and all tired and worn
(from staying up at night to sew)

JUST FOR YOU LISA...........

what do you think of my ugly block?
I kinda think she turned out purty!
the pop of red and turquoise seems
to make your eye forget
about the moldy hay and ugly
huge flowers.......
I need to trim her up and send her off
but I MAY need to rethink some of these uglies....
maybe even have YOU all send me slabs of YOUR uglies
how is THAT for cleaning out the stash? LOL

I will leave you all with a Hi from my Mom
she has been gone 28 years July 30th
and every year at this time
she pops in and says HI
with this gorgeous bloom
it was one of her favorite flowers
Hi Mom.......say Hi to the blog gals!

rainy busy day here today.
groceries and haircut so tata for now

dresdans

Jacky made this dresdan
isnt it pretty?

so soft in color

mine are like me
LOUD and COLORFUL LOL

but I love them all
I dont think I ever met a dresdan I didnt like

did you?

here is one I started
eh hmmmm
Many moons ago........
in pinks and blues
I like them with the dark background
and may need to finish them up into a quilt
soon

and then I had some blue and gold ones
I think 6 of them for a lap quilt

and some floral ones
that  I love with the beige gingham

I really need to see how many of these I have
and make them into something
I am not sure I want to make
this into a quilt
and thats ok.......these are only 5 inches
so it would take a lot to make a quilt
maybe a cute quilted bag would be nice........
we will see

and I need to see if this book is still available or if it is out of print
want to get one
anyone know of any around?

thanks everyone for the feel better soon wishes.
I am sitting longer and longer each day so that
is a plus
I just got a bad bruise on the ole tail bone

leave it to me.....it would probably have been
funny if someone had filmed it
I broke the fall with my butt LOL

better than a broken bone I guess
but man the day after I stayed home
and in bed. laying down was so much easier
than sitting   owie

Dunkin was upset that it cut into our sewing time.
and HE LET ME KNOW lol

the good the bad and the ugly

remember a while ago Lisa of  "that Dorky Homemade Look" fame
sent me some slabs?

well, she wanted slabs made from my ugliest fabric
I know! we all have those right?
the fabric that you say
"what was I thinking" or what was I DRINKING?
LOL
I have no idea how these "beauties" made it into my stash
but here they sit
because I cant think of what I can make with them

I mean really
what would you do with this?
It looks like a background of some canyon
or something and then goes into like another print
weird.....

and this ugly brown stripey thing
looks like moldy hay    just sayin

and a gray and pink print

big flowers (may not be ugly to some
I am not a fan of huge floral prints)

and this clown type fabric
that is all I can think of is a clown outfit

this one is cute that I threw in
to help the uglies along I guess
who who who's ugly? ME?
see those cute owls........crack me up

and this one is ok too........

but look through your stash~
got any uglies?

maybe we should have a contest
to see what we can make out of the uglies
and see if we can make something
pretty and useful

just sayin........

as soon as I can sit for long spells
I will cut these up like
Edward Scissorhand
and see what I can come up with

who knows?  maybe an ugly slab quilt
is in its infancy

stay tuned.............

baa baa black sheep have you any wool

Are you singing yet?
sing along with me

baa baa black sheep have  you any wool
yes sir yes sir three bags full
one for the master
one for the dame
one for the little boy that lives in the lane
baa baa black sheep
have you any wool?
yes sir yes sir three bags full

isnt this the cutest sheep?
look close at his body

I KNOW
YARN
no carding or spinning necessary with this guy!
is this MY block?

um nope
you see I was mowing the grass
and fell
and hit my tailbone
on the butterfly bush stump

yeah
OWIE
that hurt
so I have been creeping along here
like a 100 year old
walking and sitting very gingerly
yeah
I work at a desk   UGH
but this too shall pass
dont feel sorry for me.........
I was stupid.........Heres my sign!
I tried to hold on to the mower with one hand
and flip over the wheelbarrow in another
to save time
yeah
not
a
good
idea
at
all

so I will pay dearly for my stupidity

anyone know someone who mows?
I think this is a job I may have to give up soon.....

my sheep is cut so at least I am one step closer......

Jacky and some farm adventures

Jacky was gifted the cow fabric from me
it was used long ago in some cute
baby bibs
and she mentioned she liked the cows

fast forward about a year
during one of my "five finger discount" days
at her house I acquired a bag of scraps
and these fussy cut cows and checks were in them

so I sat down and sewed them up

found a black and white back
and made a cute little topper

can you see the quilting any better? I just went quarter inch
around all points

cute cute cute

so I gifted it back to her...........
because Jacky would like it
and I like Jacky.........

besides after my beautiful gifts from
my quilty friends lately
I felt I had to pay it forward

(got anything else cut up Jacky?)
I'll take it........just sayin...........

another fun adventure

Jacky and I have been working  on the fall
orange slab project
so lots of meetings at her house
and sewing sessions and show and tell lol

the other night after one of the sessions, I came home
with a new Dresden template and made this
(I know its not orange silly- I cant reveal the secret
till its time)

couldnt find a back so sewed up these
kites that she had cut and gifted to me
so springy

the next morning found me working diligently
on my deer quilt- (yeah right)

NOT
I cut out some blue blades
and stitched them up

found a back and finished it
LOVE IT

so I had to make another........
they are like potato chips I tell ya!

make sure you are saving your orange scraps
and you can even make some slabs so that you can
be ahead of the game

our little project will be
a no stress project~
you will want to get in on the fun
trust me

we will be doing this:

1) collect orange scraps   if you are short on some
call in your quilty friends to enhance the pile

2) taking oranges to yellow oranges and making slabs
dont worry- this time YOU will keep the slabs- if you want to add
browns thats ok. it is your project

we will be exchanging the pumpkin recipes that you
have been finding and saving
I will try and make a file that we can all read
or will retype them on the blog for all to have
LOVE pumpkin and recipes made with it

Here is a quick one for ya
when I did weight watchers years ago the lady
that ran it used to come up with these weird recipes
that were awesome

take one can PUMPKIN  (not pie filling)
and one spice cake box
that is IT
mix just the two of them together
no eggs or anything else - ignore the box directions
batter will be a little stiff  you could add a tsp water if too stiff
make into a loaf, or muffins
for some pumpkin spice fun
you could make a cake too!
no added oil (fat)
and quick and good........
bake till done. may take a little longer
as the pumpkin is wet but check

can "frost" with lite cool whip if desired.
I like them plain as muffins.
the pumpkin adds fiber and vitamin A
there  you go..........one recipe already!
and you may even have the ingredients on hand

breakfast anyone?

oh and by the way,,,,,,,if you dont have spice cake mix
not to worry
use chocolate for an easy fudgy brownie like treat
or chocolate muffins

use yellow cake too.......try it and see
one of my favs was the choc cake mix and made like brownies in
a brownie pan
top with Edys lower fat and sugar ice cream
that has like 80 cal per half cup
brownie sundae!  I KID YOU NOT
delish

(you're welcome)

3) Jacky and I each week will show you what we
are doing with our orange slabs and we
will share how we did those projects
so you can make one or all of them
your choice.........
you have the month of Aug and Sept to finish
and reveals will be Oct 1
(I will see if I can do a linky thing so we can all see)

I am looking into a giveaway too
just sayin..........

so..........
collect those orange scraps
look up your favorite pumpkin recipe and send it off to me so I
can put it on the blog
and make sure you make something with  your
orange slabs and show it off on Oct 1st

as we get further into it I will have more details.

what cha say?
you in????
