part one of your Christmas gift from me

this will make a wall quilt 28x28
or make it larger into a tree skirt
or table topper

you get the idea

Here we go-  you can cut out all the parts ahead and label them
or only cut the parts we are doing
your choice

of RED

cut 4-  2.5x32 (binding) or leave for last
cut 2-  4.5x4.5 squares

of WHITE or background
(need about 1 yd)
2-  4.5inch squares
1- 4.5x8.5
4 - 6.5 squares
12-  6 7/8 inch squares I usually cut them 7 inch and trim later

of GREENS
9 - 5  1/4 inch squares
4- 2 7/8 squares
5- 1 1/2 squares
2- 2 1/2 inch squares
12- 6 7/8 squares

then you will also need lining to fit and batting and the above mentioned binding to finish your gift

OK lets get started shall we?

select at least 8 green prints to have variety, tone on tone medium, medium dark and dark greens with lots of texture will make it sparkle

take 1  5 1/4 square and 4  2 7/8 squares- we will be making flying geese
lay the 5 1/4 square down  right side up
take 2 of the smaller squares and place right sides together laying them on the opposite corners of the larger block. they will overlap a bit in the center. match the squares to the outer edge  mark the center line corner to corner going thru the center of the two squares  sew a quarter inch away both sides

then cut on the drawn line
then on the two pieces that you now have you will put the other two small squares on the larger section and do the same. mark the center, sew a quarter inch away on both sides and cut on the drawn line
you should now have 4 flying geese
see link below if you are confused. the link is ONLY the METHOD and NOT THE SIZES we are using

we will also make the quarter square triangles
take the rest of the 5 1/4 squares and pair them in 2's
place right sides together  draw a line corner to corner    sew 1/4 inch away each side   cut on line  making 2 half square triangles
then mix them up and sew two of those sections together to make quarter square triangles
the pattern makes 8 but we only need 7  (we needed the variety to make it sparkle)

AGAIN HERE IS THE METHOD BUT NOT THE SIZES WE ARE USING
MAKE SURE YOU USE MY MEASUREMENTS FOR THE SIZE

GREAT JOB! YOU HAVE SUCCESSFULLY DONE PART ONE
I WILL BE BACK IN A FEW DAYS WITH PART TWO OF THIS GIFT TO YOU..........
