more of this to tackle

it feels good to tackle unfinished things and clear out a space. I will blog less often and go to Pinterest less often (I need Pinterest Anonymous) and try and get these projects off my to do list.
besides, if I hem these pants and do mending with new zipper/ buttons I will have a new wardrobe. WIN WIN!
then I will look purty as I finish my UFO pile. ha ha

cats are smarter than you think

this guy Dunkin is a rascal. He came to us when he was very small and he thinks he is human. He also thinks I am his mama and he is like my shadow.
over the weekend as I was getting dressed , I hear the phone off the hook sound. nobody was around so I was leary who was in the house messing with the phone. I looked around and could find no one.
except this innocent looking little guy looking at me with that " I didnt do it Mom" look. He had gotten up on the side table where the phone is and was walking on it and must have pressed buttons. then the operator says on the phone  "the number you are trying to dial is not valid. please hang up and try again." well he jumped off that table so fast it was funny!
Hopefully I dont get any bills for long distance calls while I am at work!
little buggar..........
Dunkin you are too too smart!
He makes us laugh every day.

dresdan runner process

This runner was an old UFO. It started out as a pattern that was going to be a surprise quilt for a niece. She was about 9 at the time. She is now 16.
As with all UFOs it started out as a project I was gung ho about.
But then one day as I was sewing and cutting the 3 strip rail part, I picked up the wrong ruler and cut the squares too small. Of course, there goes the fabric and I couldnt think of how I was going to fix that problem.
One of my rulers measures like 6 or 6 1/2 and the other one is much smaller. I used it as a quick no think method of cutting the squares. see what I get for not thinking?????
It sat as I stewed and tried to save the day but nothing was coming to me and I was mad at myself because I didnt have extra fabric of what I needed to make it look right.
fast forward to 2012/2013. I self imposed a "finish your projects and use or give away" before starting anything new. I have enough of them to last me a lifetime for sure. but I still love a lot of them and want to complete them before I dont love them anymore
I took this one dresdan (I have more that went into this "quilt") and I cut it down to fit a 4 patch of the rail pieces. It looked nice as a runner so I made one. Then I searched and searched and found a fabric that I didnt mind for the center circle.
I am almost done with the quilting part. I am hand quilting it and then will find one of the fabric strips to bind it. I want it to be a Valentine gift for someone so now I have
1) started finishing a UFO
2) fixed part of the problem as to why it was a UFO
3) identified a purpose for it and
 4) established a time for it to be finished by.
Hey! I think I may be on to something! LOL
because it is a smaller project, I started it first to kind of psyche myself into finishing something fast.
we will see how I make out by year end.............
so many UFOs........but so many plans!

still thinking about these

I am still thinking about what to do with these blocks. Maybe I should clean my sewing room and see if I have a bunch of other blocks and make a kitchen sink quilt. Maybe the blue and yellow will brighten up some other blocks.
hmmmmm...........wonder what I will find..........
I think the bright vs dusty blue bothers me to put them in the samequilt . any ideas?

there is work to be done

there is work to be done around here. have a pile or hemming and mending to do. these pants are needing to be hemmed. can you tell I am short? I have enough fabric here to make a tube top for the granddaughter LOL-
I will cut some off and repin the length and try and get one done per night until the pile is gone.....

so much work,,,,,,,,,,,so little time..................but it will be nice to get it done and make another spot free in the sewing room.  not to mention to have some new clothes to wear. hopefully they are one cookie size up if you know what I mean! LOL

I must have been good

We normally dont exchange gifts for Christmas anymore as we get what we want and need throughout the year. Hubby was going to get a Kindle Fire HD and I was going to get a new sewing machine that zig zags but since I will be laid off, no presents were bought for us. we can do without. they are wants, not needs.
but Santa remembered I was on the nice list.............

and I got a personalized calendar with the grandkids..............PERFECT way to see them every day of the year!!!!!!  that way when I am missing them, I can still "see them".

thanks Santa!

deer pillowcases

I forgot to take pictures of my brothers pillowcases. I had found a great deal on deer fabric. a 2 yd piece for 7.00 and he is an avid deer hunter.
so I bought it, and looked in the stash for matches. found a nice dark green for the accent strip and a beige paisley for the band and made him 2 pillowcases for Christmas. Now he can dream of the big bucks LOL

I will try and see if the rest of this fabric can make another set maybe with the deer as the band this time. too nice to not use for him in some way.

Christmas from the cats

This is what I got from the cats for Christmas.. They are pretty smart huh? they even had Victoria autograph it for me.
I HAD to sew something 15 minutes style............
more like stripes but these were small pieces all around 6 to 8 inches long. I am thinking maybe a small zippered bag for makeup or coins. we will see how it progresses.
and then grabbed more fabric pieces...........
another potholder size piece. hmmmm...........a very big head start on 2013 Christmas???
or a square to a quilt. we will see after it stews a bit...........but it was fun to just sew willy nilly .............

this quilt is very old

The niece that I had intended this eye spy quilt for is too old for it. I do have some young grandchildren and need to get er done!
maybe this should be on my 2013 list to finish........
I just need to find the border fabric and find a backing and binding fab. luckily there are many colors so even a multicolored binding would work.
the border fab I had bought is a yellow background with writing on it like the alphabet and words. I thought it would be nice. I think the reason I stopped on this one is that I didnt want the words to be sideways. I may think otherwise and get this one  done before my grandkids are old enough to marry! LOL

I love this laptop

I bet you were thinking techie laptop! I need to find a backing that I like for this laptop quilt to be finished. It is a shame to let it stand in the pile of not done tops. I love this top and need to finish it in 2013!C
