farmgirl progress

or not........two months in a row I have not
worked on my farm...........

bad girl........
but I think I will have to put her
on the back burner till after the holidays

so much to do......

this is where I am now. I have 20 blocks
and I think a sheep and house cut out
so who knows

my cousin saw it on facebook and
always comments that she cant
wait to see it done
I want to journal it with the stories
for my nieces
my cousin goes you need to make 5 of them
one for each niece LOL

some day if I need another diversion
the following are the reasons I
didnt make any blocks

a stocking challenge...........

pumpkins! lots of PUMPKINS LOL

some sunflowers.........
just because........

and a wedding of flowers to do.

so I guess I DID get things accomplished
just not what was on the
TO DO list.

hoping I can stay on task the next few months
and get more things finished

Wednesday, August 30, 2017

hopefully I can get this done next

this is my next thing to finish

I had started a quiltalong a year or so ago
and only made 4 blocks

so I put them together for a table topper
and then quilted it up

I just need to sew down the binding and it will be done

feels good to get some finishes done

going to try and take
a whole week vacation
so that I can get lots of stuff done.....

it is hard taking a day here and a day there
not restful either

I need time off!
from work that is.......

found treasures

two of my Dads sisters who have since passed
gave me some treasures to pass on

some were made by my Aunts
and some were made my my Dad's mom or
my Grandmother. I never knew her
she died before I was born
but they say I am a mini her.......LOL
any who look at this beautiful work
a butterfly...........

a lacy edge.......

a risque~ flamingo dancer
what she looks pretty right?

if you lift up  her top
you see her bra
if you lift her bra she is nude
My Dads mom made this I was told
and I thought it was funny

yeah and here are her bloomers......
I will keep the rest of her under wraps......
but my nieces may get a kick out of this piece of
history for them.

My children are steps so have no interest in this
side of the family as far as history

funny  how these things become
special when others find them
and try and imagine what you
were thinking as you made this creation

I guess my Gramma had a fun streak! ha ha

another finish

found this while looking for some other things
and so I decided to find a backing
blue? LOL

and finished it up
and into the box she goes.........

another one bites the dust......
sing it with me......

got a lot done I think

this guy was hampering my progress
but I pressed on and got the
handstitching done for all this

three mug rugs........

three more mug rugs

and my sewing machine cover
the 221 doesnt have a walking foot but
I am not concerned about the little puckering
it will still protect my machine
from dirt and dust
AND I get to see these cute 9 patches and scraps

or flying geese If I want......

so a few things finished up

see? I even used up a piece of BLUE fabric
that I seem to have a glut of right now
no surprise it is my fav color. LOL

how are YOU doing in your sewing room?

my nieces

these are my 5 nieces
the one in the middle had a Jack and Jill shower last night
we had lots of fun
dont they look gorgeous?
my Dad got 5 granddaughters  no grandsons

Here is my Dad with his girls
He is 85 and runs circles around me
keeps him young I guess

love these guys and they love their Grampy!

it spoke to me

today this pumpkin spoke to me
(did to did to)
he wanted to be a mugrug
I found more of that blue floral fabric
added the piece to the left
cut it to a good mug rug size

quilted it and even cut out the binding.
now this binding will be put on another morning
to finish him up

I also grabbed this fun project for ME
my sewing machine cover
I grabbed a blue large piece for the backing
quilted it in a wavy kind of line
took binding scraps and made the 4 ties
and more binding scraps and sewed the binding on
just have to hand sew the back and done.

I love it

while I was working in blues
I put the scraps in a bin
and it looks like I need to cut 2.5 inch
strips and squares

to do more work on this quilt
the star scrappy one at butterfly threads

so it has been a busy busy day
but all fun.........

two hearts will soon be joined

today is the shower for my niece

these hearts were the ones I made for Colette
but it symbolizes
when two hearts
come together to be as one

I am so happy for my niece
she and her fiance are looking
forward to their life together

so tonight, while you sew
in your sewing room

I want you to find your old records

and play
and dance

I hopefully will be dancing too!

rearranging and organizing

yeah after all my slabbing and sewing
I had to take a little break and straighten up
it is funny when you do that how many things
you find that you forgot about

Or is it just me??

I found this pair of Christmas socks
last year I wanted to do a sock swap
you buy Christmas socks to wear
and put one inside the other to make
one sock
then you fill it like you would a stocking
you would hang
and then you exchange them
you then have a cute gift plus some cute
socks to wear
how fun is that?

anyone interested in doing a swap like that?
now is the time to think about it
because stuffer items can be found everywhere
from using your extra bucks at the drug store
on an item to ah hem
quilting items you got for free or little money
because you are a big spender.....LOL

anywho found this.  may need to take it up again
in Jan once the nutty chaos is over

and this top is together like this
but I need backing and batting
and to get er done
the baby boy is due in October
so the clock is a ticking......

anyone want to do a sock exchange?
let me know and if enough
interest it will be a fun little event

here comes the bride

fooled ya didnt I?
well these two things are
going to be married
so I guess I wasnt too far off LOL

I will try and add the strips

of white to these pink and purple blocks
and make a little quilt
for my granddaughter

I think she will like it

we will see how far I get doing this project in the mornings.........

maybe I can get another top done?

couldnt decide what to work on so what do I do?
some quick little projects
just to make me feel good
started making a mugrug for each month
why? heck if I know
I think I have Jan (blue snowflake)
Feb  pink
Mar  green one
April other pink and purple one
July   blue with flag
Christmas rose one
and the Fall one for football season
7 out of the 12 months
and they just need binding
I will use leftover bindings that fit
and will have a cute little
or just a good supply of them
to have on hand

what are YOU making???
are you staying on task?

I am not.........and it is BAD

I think it is because I am overwhelmed with
everything lately
and cant concentrate on ONE thing

but this too shall pass

are you having some slabbing fun with us?

Are you having fun in your stash?
slabbing away with us?

dont know what "slabs" are?
well you just grab  your strips and parts
and sew two together chain piecing style
and then add another and another
until you have something like this

and because we used all orange
we planned a month of
PUMPKIN slabbing
to make something fun for YOU
for the Fall

if you only want to do a little..........'
make a small pumpkin
into a mug rug

see how cute?

if you want to make something bigger
like  Jackie did........

a large mugrug

a small wall hanging.....

or a potholder wanna be............

OR you can plan like I did

Julie is making an adorable monsta mash quilt

and Babs is slabbing away as well
making pumpkins out of her orange stash

so wont you join us?
add in your own favorite pumpkin recipe
(dont forget to stock up on some pumpkin)

and use up that orange stash
you can add yellows that are on the orange side
too and I even added some browns to some of mine

just mindless slabbing away
to make something fun for the Fall

you have till end of Sept to make something
and then SHOW US

or you could make it today to watch the eclipse.   just sayin..........anytime you make it I think you will enjoy

Turtle Pumpkin Ice Cream Cake

YIELD: 10-12 slices
PREP TIME: 20 minutes active time, 1-2 hours freezer time
COOK TIME: 12 minutes
A Thanksgiving dessert and celebration ice cream dessert cake!

  • 1 pound ginger snaps
  • 1 stick (1/2 cup) melted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 14 ounce can dulce de leche
  • 3 quarts pumpkin ice cream (Pumpkin pie, pumpkin swirl, you name it!)
  • 1 small bottle chocolate Magic Shell
  • 3/4 cup candied pecans

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Trace the bottom of a 9 inch spring-form pan on parchment paper, and cut out a circle to lay in the bottom of the pan.
  2. Using a food processor or high-powered blender, pulse the gingersnaps until they reach a fine crumb. Add the melted butter and egg and pulse a few more times to combine.
  3. Press the gingersnap mixture evenly over the bottom of the spring-form pan, and up the sides approximately 2 inches. Bake for 10-12 minutes.
  4. Once out of the oven, cut a parchment paper strip 4 inches high, and a little over 2 feet long, to line the perimeter of the pan. Tuck the parchment paper strip carefully between the crust walls and the sides of the pan. Adjust the paper ring to fit snugly around the crust the secure with a paper clip. Press the crust back gently if it has slumped a little.
  5. Spread the entire can of dulce de leche over the bottom of the crust. Then place the crust in the freezer for 15 minutes to chill.
  6. Scoop the ice cream into the crust and press down using a piece of wax paper. Smooth the top with a spatula. Place back in the freezer to firm up--30-60 minutes.
  7. Then release the sides of the spring-form pan and remove the ring and parchment paper. Shake the chocolate magic shell vigorously, then drizzle around the edges. Once the edges of the cake are covered in chocolate, drizzle the magic shell in the middle of the cake. Quickly top with candied pecans, before the magic shell hardens. Place back in the freezer until ready to serve. If you plan to wait more than 1 day to serve the cake, wrap it well with foil, followed by a layer of plastic wrap.

I love it

I got this runner top together

as you can see one pumpkin has no stem
I guess just like in real life huh?

the tall one

here it is on the back of the couch
check to the right
is that a furball?

yep a snoozin Phoebe
while Dunks and I were busy in the sewing room
(as I ripped my strips he played trying to
catch them- ok ok so I had to play a little too)

this top is finished so now ready
to pull backing and batt and binding

and lookie here!
MORE pumpkins to play with......

am thinking some nice placemats maybe?
or potholders?
they are not talking to me today so we

will wait for another day

I cleaned up one little area of my room
